Creativity, Storytelling & Media for Change

These photographs capture some of the most inspiring moments from our recent Empowerwoment workshops, where students came together to explore the transformative power of storytelling and media. From crafting personal narratives in our creative writing sessions to diving into discussions about female representation in film, literature, and journalism, each workshop was a space of reflection, discovery, and growth.
Participants engaged in hands-on activities designed to spark imagination and amplify their unique voices. They wrote stories that reimagined traditional roles, analyzed media portrayals of women from different cultures, and shared personal experiences that highlighted the intersection of identity, gender, and power. The sessions weren’t just about writing or media -- they were about learning how our words, ideas, and stories can influence the world around us.
Every smile, every shared moment of vulnerability, and every burst of creative energy in these pictures reflects our core belief: that when young women are given the tools to tell their stories, they don’t just find their voice -- they become a voice for others too. These workshops are just the beginning of what we hope will be a lifelong journey of empowerment through expression.

Book
“The Modern Magic Spell: Unleashing the magic of gender bias-defying tales”

Having witnessed the widespread gender bias, I’ve become really passionate about women empowerment. I founded an organization (www.empowerwoment.org) in 2022, where I have been using narrative, poems, and podcasts to fight gender bias. In the summer of 2023, I conducted an in-person 8 session creative writing course for 30 girls from impoverished backgrounds who are studying in a government funded school in India. The aim was to empower these girls by providing a creative outlet for their imagination. The course started with a brief on plot creation and culminated in the learners writing original stories with the theme of women empowerment. Of these, 5 moving stories were shortlisted for editing and eventual publication. The girls demonstrated impressive courage sharing their plans for higher education and career ambitions. I witnessed first-hand the power education holds as a tool for empowerment.

TESTIMONIALS
The testimonials from the Government Senior Secondary School in Nathupur reflect the meaningful impact of my project, which brings creative writing workshops focused on women’s empowerment to rural schools. Through these sessions, students learned how to build stories while engaging with ideas of self-reliance, ambition, and challenging gender roles. Many spoke about how the project helped them express their own goals -- like becoming teachers or air hostesses -- and encouraged them to think differently about their futures. One moment that stood out to me was when a student stayed back after class to share how she had never thought about writing her own story before, and how proud she felt seeing it take shape. The teacher highlighted how the workshops boosted the girls’ confidence and willingness to speak up, and the principal shared her appreciation for the project’s role in opening up new possibilities for the students.
