Danial Latifi v. Union of India (2001)
In 1986, Parliament passed a law limiting a Muslim woman's maintenance to the three-month iddat period after divorce. In 2001, the Supreme Court ruled that the husband still has to provide for her future beyond those three months, even though the law's wording never changed.
